San Benito County Marks its Four-Year Anniversary
Discount prescription card program helps residents manage their health while contributing to the community
The San Benito County Board of Supervisors announced today that the county’s discount prescription card, Coast2Coast Rx, has reached a milestone achievement by saving participating residents more than $1.1 million on prescription drugs since its launch in August 2009.
With the no-cost, comprehensive program San Benito County card users have a four-year average savings of 69.3 percent with averages trending upwards―in 2013 participants have already saved $387,733 with a collective average savings of 77.2 percent. The impact extends to the community, as $1.25 is generated for county programs each time a prescription is filled using the Coast2Coast Rx card.
“The numbers accrued in the last four years only tell part of the story—our constituents are using the county’s prescription discount card to better manage their health care by saving on prescriptions and routine services that they might not otherwise be able to afford,” stated San Benito County Supervisor Jaime De La Cruz. “Since the Board of Supervisors launched this program, the Coast2Coast Rx card has assisted our residents in saving money, contributed to improved health outcomes and has been a revenue-positive initiative that helps support public
In addition to providing savings of up to 75 percent on more than 60,000 prescriptions, the Coast2Coast Rx card offers discounts on additional health services, including dental, vision and hearing care, diabetes supplies, lab and imaging work and even certain veterinary services and pet prescriptions. Everyone is eligible for the card as there are no restrictions on age, health, income or insurance status.
Though the card is especially beneficial to the uninsured and underinsured, it can also assist those facing the expense of high deductibles under their current plan and in some cases can be used by Medicare Part D patients to reduce the out-of-pocket expenses of the “donut hole.” With no membership paperwork or fees required, residents can access savings immediately by using the card at any of the 59,000+ participating pharmacies, including major chains and many independent businesses.
Chief Marketing Officer Marty Dettelbach of Financial Marketing Concepts, Inc., the company that provides the discount prescription card, explains the motivation for providing the comprehensive program; “We believe that nobody should have to make a choice between purchasing the prescriptions they need or groceries for their family; and we believe that healthy individuals make healthy communities. For these reasons we’ve created a program that allows the community as a whole to benefit each time a card user saves at the pharmacy.”
